In a major blow to their Premiership hopes, Raiders winger Xavier Savage has had his season ended by a fractured shoulder.

He sustained the injury during the club’s incredible golden point win over the Panthers at the weekend, but incredibly played on for almost 20 minutes after impact.

“Canberra Raiders winger Xavier Savage will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a shoulder injury against the Panthers in round 25,” a club stamen said.

“Scans have revealed a fracture in Savage's shoulder.

“He will meet with a surgeon this week to see if he requires surgery but will miss the remainder of the season regardless.”

Raiders sit on top of the NRL ladder, two points clear of second place Storm with two games remaining in the home and away season.

They face the Wests Tigers and Dolphins in their bid to claim the minor premiership.

“The pain he was in when he was hit, almost immediately you thought that’s a serious injury,” Greg Alexander said on SEN Breakfast.

“Savage was having trouble just lifting that arm. He played on for 15 minutes but no surprise to see it as a serious injury.

“That’s a blow because he’s been terrific this year.”
