It’s hard to disagree with the Knights’ rumoured decision to move coach Adam O’Brien on, according to Corey Parker, who is adamant they have all the talent they need to succeed.
This year marks O’Brien’s sixth season with the club during which time he has guided them to four finals campaigns and a sole finals victory.
The 2025 season has been disappointing, with just six wins for the year and a battle for the wooden spoon with the Titans the Knights’ only real “competition”.
According to reports on Tuesday night, O’Brien and the Knights have come to a mutual decision for the coach to step down – and parker can see the logic.
"There's so much instability at the club,” he said on SENQ Breakfast.
“There’s talks Ponga has looked at leaving and the reality for Adam is, he has been there six seasons. This isn’t a one or two year experiment.
“He has been to the semi-finals four times and they have won one. He has done a good job with what he’s had (but) they have just come to a point that they would think Adam is not the man to move them forward.
“It’s hard to disagree with it.
“Not long ago they gave him an extension but, when they don’t go well, this conversation comes to the forefront.
“Time will tell if this is the right call.”
The club held a committee meeting with a few board members on Tuesday night where it is reported that O’Brien’s payout was discussed.
Assistant coach Blake Green is expected to take over but it remains unknown if O’Brien will see out the final two matches of the season.
Asked what needs to happen at the knights moving forward, Parker said: “They have Dylan Brown coming for 10 years, there is a wonderful group of young players.
“Whether this is the right or wrong call will come in due time.
“Their best attacking weapons are on the sideline.
“They need to start at the bottom. They need to go from grassroots through the whole program and look where the improvements can come from and try to maximise those areas.
“There is enough talent in that group to play consistent football week in and week out.”
