The South Sydney Rabbitohs have confirmed that star fullback Latrell Mitchell is unlikely to play in the final game of the season against the Sydney Roosters on Friday.
Mitchell has battled various injuries throughout the 2025 campaign but will miss the showdown against the Roosters due to a pinched nerve in his back.
However, after another season in which Mitchell played just 11 games, SEN’s Andrew Voss has questioned whether South Sydney are getting the most out of their marquee player.
“I’m worried if I’m a South Sydney fan,” Voss said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“I’ve seen videos of Latrell Mitchell at his farm and of him playing golf.
“I’m just wondering about his rehab and his commitment to his rehab.
“I just want to know that he’s tried all he possibly can to get back on to the field.
“I want him to give himself every shot to return (because) it would appear that Cameron Murray has.
“Cameron Murray could’ve easily said ‘that’s it’ but he’s put his heart out in order to get back onto the field.
“I just hope so because 11 games is not a very big output again.
“That’s now two years in a row that he’s only played 11 games for the season. Souths are not getting great returns on their money.”
In his first four seasons in the NRL with the Roosters, Mitchell played a total of 96 games between 2016 and 2019. Since joining the Rabbitohs in 2020, he has only played 86 first grade games.
The most number of games Mitchell has played for South Sydney in a season is 17 which he achieved in both 2021 and 2022.
