After playing 352 games with the Sea-Eagles, Daly Cherry-Evans, in his last game in the Manly jersey, was sent off in style with a one-point win against the Warriors.
While Manly was still a mathematical chance of making the finals, they would need to beat the Warriors by a significant margin.
However, they got off to a horrible start when Jason Saab was unable to gather the ball, which left James Fisher-Harris able to score one of the fastest tries in NRL history.
The Sea-Eagles, however, were quick to recover with Cherry-Evans kicking an important 40/20 to help set up Lehi Hopoate’s try in the next set.
Manly continued their dominance with Jake Simpkin and Hopoate crossing over the line to increase their lead to eight points.
Although that lead was then cut in half heading into the main break, with Dallin Watene-Zelezniak scoring from a quick play of the ball, which saw him all alone in the right corner.
The second half would start a lot better for Manly compared to the first, as Luke Brooks dummied his way through the Warriors’ line to score, while Ethan Bullemor would add another try to see the Sea-Eagles take up a 16-point lead with 30 minutes left.
The Warriors came storming back to make Manly fans nervous with only a six-point lead with seven minutes to go.
But Manly’s captain in Cherry-Evans would be the difference, kicking a vital field goal with five minutes remaining, which was enough to hold their lead despite the Warriors’ last-minute try through Watene-Zelezniak.
