GWS Giant Leek Aleer has handed in his trade request, with the defender wanting to play for St Kilda in 2026.
With the Giants’ season having officially ended following their Elimination Final loss to Hawthorn on Saturday, the 194cm defender has officially confirmed that he wants to play for the Saints after plenty of speculation throughout the year.
The 24-year-old was drafted by the Giants back in 2021, with the Pick 15 being viewed as a long-term prospect.
But having only played 13 games this season and struggled to break into the side until injuries, Aleer has chosen to move to St Kilda where he'll have a better chance at a starting opportunity.
This season, he has averaged 9.5 disposals, 4.2 spoils and 1.4 tackles per game, often playing as the Giants’ third tall defender.
Aleer is the latest name to have handed in a trade request to Moorabbin, with Jack Silvagni and Liam Ryan having done the same across the last week and a half.
The Giants will also lose out on another depth player, with winger Jacob Wehr officially handing in a request to leave GWS.
The 27-year-old mature-aged recruit joined the side in 2020 having bloomed late in the SANFL, managing just 39 games in his five seasons with the club.
Following his delisting and re-listing in 2024, Wehr is free to exit the club as a delisted free agent, with reports suggesting the winger is likely to land at Port Adelaide ahead of the 2026 season.
The trade period doesn’t officially open until October 6.
