Amid the excitement of Ange Postecoglou returning to the Premier League after being confirmed as the new Nottingham Forest manager, Mark Bosnich has warned the Aussie has huge shoes to fill.
The Australian, who was sacked by Tottenham in June despite winning the Europa League final, has signed an 18-month contract with the Premier League outfit.
He replaces Nuno Espirito Santo who was given his marching orders just three games into the 2025/26 season amid tensions with club CEO and owner Evangelos Marinakis.
Despite the very public issues between the pair, Nuno led Forest to their best season in 30 years during his 18 month tenure, with the club finishing 7th in 2025 just one point off the Champions League.
They are also back in Europe for the first time in three decades.
So while the arrival of Postecoglou will be celebrated by Australians, the pressure will be on him immediately with a daunting trip to Arsenal first up on the fixture list.
"Ange Postecoglou is back in the Premier League but there's big shoes to fill because Nuno has done a really good job," Bosnich told SENQ Breakfast.
"The other thing is Nuno has set this team to be a counter-attacking team. So they like to sit back, take up all the pressure, and then hit teams on the counter.
"They beat Liverpool at Anfield last season playing in this way.
"Ange’s football, as we know, is the complete opposite to that. He likes to be on the front foot and play.
"It's gonna be interesting to see what happens because there's no transfer window until January.
"That team and those players are set to play in this way. Will Ange go and say, no, we're gonna play this way now, or will he leave it alone, like Arnie Slot did at Liverpool last season and have great success?"
In two seasons with Tottenham, Postecoglou managed a superb fifth-place finish in his Premier League debut, enough to secure entry into the Europa League – a prestigious tournament that the 60-year-old would go on to win with Spurs, their first trophy following a 17-year drought.
Europa League success aside, an injury plagued 2024/25 saw the North London outfit slip to 17th on the Premier League table, resulting in Postecoglou’s sacking at the commencement of his second season in charge.
Announcing the Australian's arrival at the club. a statement from Marinakis said: “We are bringing a coach to the Club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies. His experience of coaching teams at the highest level, along with his desire to build something special with us at Forest, makes him a fantastic person to help us on our journey and achieve consistently all our ambitions.
“After gaining promotion to the Premier League, then building consistently season after season to secure European football, we now must take the right step to compete with the very best and challenge for trophies. Ange has the credentials and the track-record to do this, and we are excited he is joining us on our ambitious journey."
