Bailey Smith has made contact with the photographer he abused on Wednesday.
The Geelong star launched a verbal spray at Alison Wynd who snapped him while receiving treatment on a massage table at an open training session at GMHBA Stadium.
According to the Herald Sun, Smith messaged Wynd to express “remorse for his actions and expressed his wish for the pair to be able to move forward with the unsavoury incident behind them”.
While Smith has apologised for his actions, both the AFL and the Geelong Football Club are yet to comment publicly on the All-Australian’s outburst.
SEN’s Dwayne Russell responded to the fact that Smith apologised through a text message only.
He believes the Cats have been “weak” in allowing Smith to send a text message and says he would be ok if the 24-year-old was suspended for his actions.
“I said it yesterday that it was disgraceful,” Russell said on SEN’s Dwayne’s World on Wednesday.
“I said yesterday that he needs to apologise. I said it earlier today that the AFL weighs in and fines him then good. He needs to be fined.
“The AFL does need to speak on it and not hide behind a rock. Come out and actually say something on it because you need to.
“You can’t have a respect for women round and then not take action against Bailey Smith. The photographer did nothing wrong and certainly didn’t deserve that abuse.
“I think Geelong has been weak allowing him to apologise by text.
“I’d be more than happy to have him suspended.”
