Rate or slate the Dockers: The A+ rookie and F-grade defender

A season full of promise, the Fremantle Dockers fell slightly short of lofty expectations.

Fielding one of the youngest squads in the AFL, the Dockers finished in sixth place, winning an impressive 16 games including 11 of their last 13 fixtures.

However, a heart-breaking one point Elimination Final loss to the Gold Coast Suns meant the Dockers exited 2025 without a September triumph.

With the season over, Scott Cummings and Tim Gossage have run the rule over every Docker and rated their respective seasons on SEN WA Breakfast.

James Aish

Scotty: C-

Goss: F

"No impact. He was a WAFL player."

Jye Amiss

Scotty: B-

"He's a full forward. 32 goals is just not enough in a side that won 16 games of footy.

"But he fought, and he continued to fight.

"I think he got looked after by the coach a lot, but when he wasn't getting it, he was competing.

"I'm not going to extend this much on too many players, but I'm going to give him a B-, because he just kept fighting and he just kept competing."

Goss: C

"Have we got the same bloke?

"I'm a Jye Amiss fan, and that's not what he was doing. I don't think it was a very good year at all, and he's tradeable."

Bailey Banfield

Scotty: B

"He played in a number of positions - he played forward, he played on the wing a couple of times, he played back as well.

"He fights. His bad is really bad and for some reason it stands out a lot, but his good, when he's playing his role, it doesn't stand out as much as his bad stuff does."

Goss: B-

Shai Bolton

Scotty: B-

"Over a goal a game, when he's good he's exceptional. When he goes missing, he goes missing.

"I want more from Shai Bolton."

Andrew Brayshaw

Scotty: A

"He is an A-grade player. When you talk about workrate, it's better than anyone else on the field. I think Andy Brayshaw is a star."

Goss: A

"You cannot question him. He's a tackling beast - a lot to like about Andrew Brayshaw. He is close to being the heart and soul of that team."

Heath Chapman

Scotty: B-

"He plays a role."

Goss: B+

"There's a lot to like about Heath Chapman.

"Getting ball to boot is his issue, he takes a long time to kick the ball and it's a bit obvious where he's going to kick it."

Jordan Clark

Scotty: A+

"He's not in the top 10 in the AFL, but he's in the top 25.

"Clarky had an outstanding year."

Goss: A

Brennan Cox

Scotty: B

"It would have been a B+ but he cost them their season!"

Goss: B+

Sean Darcy

Scotty: C+

Goss: B

"I think the Sean Darcy/Luke Jackson thing works, but I do think Sean Darcy is tradeable."

Josh Draper

Scotty: C-

"There was a spot there for him; he just didn't grab it with both hands."

Goss: C

"I like him, I think he's okay."

Isaiah Dudley

Scotty: B-

"I reckon he took his opportunities when he was given them."

Goss: B-

"He gets the crowd going and there's a little bit of an X-factor there."

Neil Erasmus

Scotty: B

"If there was anyone that had any right to investigate opportunities elsewhere, it would be Neil Erasmus, so congratulations to him and his loyalty.

"I gave him a B because I think the last part of the year he showed that he can actually play."

Goss: B

"I think there's a bit of upside there."

Michael Frederick

Scotty: C

"He's got a highlight reel, that's it. He needs to be more consistent."

Goss: B

"Played 24 games, kicked 30 goals. That's not a bad effort."

Nat Fyfe

"I think he had a marginal impact when he came on. He played eight games, he fought hard and he did his bit."

Luke Jackson

"Found his role in the midfield, not just rucking. They're a better side when he leads the way."

Matthew Johnson

"Last year I said, 'I'm not sure he can play'. This year, he's been one of the most improved.

"I thought he had an outstanding year and cemented himself in the side. Took it up a level."

Goss: B

Oscar McDonald

"I reckon every time he came in, he did his job well. I don't think the opportunity was his fault."

"There's a bit of upside there."

"I reckon he's a terrific captain. There's a lot of Fremantle fans who said he was the wrong choice of captain.

"I back him in 100 per cent right from the outset, and I reckon he is the key man in that team as a leader."

"You couldn't ask for any more from the young man. First year, will probably win the rising star.

"There is nothing more you could ask from him."

"You'd love Luke Ryan going into battle for you all the time."

"He is an A+, and it's not even a conversation to be had. He is going to win their club champion by that far it's not even funny.

"He's had the best year."

Jeremy Sharp

"I had some worries for him when he dropped out of the team towards the end of the year, but, B-, re-signed, well done."

"He stopped putting stuff in his hair, went to brunette and lost all his power."

"Sam Switkowski plays, they usually win."

"I reckon in the last 12 months, I warmed to him. I didn't see his assets as much as everyone else, and now I've started to look."

"I just think he's getting played higher. If they play him deeper I think (they'd get more out of him)."

"I gave him an A- because he is another player I'm not sure I could ask any more from.

"He has continued to build, he has continued to be an X-factor in that side and he has made himself important.

"When he came into the side he was just there because someone else got injured. He has made himself important to the Fremantle Dockers."
