Tasracing's Sunday best bets at Devonport (13/09)

By Matt Reid

Devonport is the scene for Sunday thoroughbred racing again this week.

It’s a nine-race card with the transfer of one of the two abandoned races from the meeting seven days ago.

Race 1 is set for 12:15.

Best Bet

Race 4 – 1. Lovin’ Bev

Lovin’ Bev has run well twice this prep without winning, and I think she can make her first trip to Devonport a winning one. She had to use some petrol early to find the front in Hobart, but there doesn’t appear to be such pressure in this race. She’s a dynamite Launceston horse, which is a track that often plays to the front, and I think the tight Devonport circuit will suit her racing style.

Next Best

Race 3 – 9. Tizsa Nice Drop

Tizsa Nice Drop is working up to a win and appears to find a maiden that lacks the depth of her recent assignments. I thought she was unlucky two stars back in Launceston and then was only beaten by her well-supported stablemate at the track & distance last start. In a race lacking obvious tempo, she should settle in the first few and will have every chance if that happens.

Best Roughie

Race 6 – 6. Golden Meadow

I made a case for Golden Meadow for this race that was abandoned last week. The field has fallen away, and there’s no third dividend, but I suspect she’ll be over the odds. She races well in Devonport and is going much better than the form reads on paper. Thoros of Myr should lead, and they likely won’t get past him, but he’ll be short odds, and Golden Meadow may represent a value play.
