Kane Cornes believes the $5,000 fine received by Dayne Zorko for misconduct is fair.

He debated the AFL’s sanction with SEN Fireball co-host David King after the Brisbane Lions veteran was involved in a scuffle with Collingwood’s Mason Cox.

Zorko attempted to rip Cox’s protective goggles from his head during a first-quarter tussle in the Lions’ eventual Preliminary Final win at the MCG.

King feels the sanction is too harsh while Cornes suggests the action by Zorko was a dangerous one.

King: “He (Zorko) is stiff here, isn’t he?”

Cornes: “Nah, I think that’s fair. I thought it was dangerous.”

King: “$5,000?”

Cornes: “Yep. I don’t think you can grab and claw at someone’s eyes, particularly with the issues that Mason has had with his eyes.

“I think eyewear is out of bounds. It’s like pulling someone’s hair, not on.”

King: “I just think five is a bit steep for that.

“$1500 would be enough, wouldn’t it? Why does everything have to be so severe.”

Cornes: “A severe penalty for a severe action.”

Zorko was hit with a $5,000 fine for the incident, with an early plea reducing it to $3,125.

The 36-year-old will be free to play in the Grand Final against Geelong at the MCG this Saturday.
