Brisbane coach Michael Maguire admits that the Broncos’ Grand Final win is up there with one of the best achievements in his career.

The 51-year-old, who used to be an assistant coach under Craig Bellamy at the Melbourne Storm, has managed to beat his former boss and team with yet another second-half comeback to claim Brisbane’s first NRL premiership in 19 years.

This latest trophy is just the latest example of his success since leaving the Storm in 2009.

Whether it was winning the Super League with Wigan in 2010, the NRL with South Sydney in 2014, the Pacific Championship with New Zealand in 2023 or State of Origin with New South Wales in 2024, Maguire has been able to find success at nearly every team and level he has coached besides the Wests Tigers.

And in just his first season in charge of the Broncos, he has now become the only coach outside of Wayne Bennett to have taken Brisbane to the promised land.

Reflecting on the season post-game, the now two-time NRL premiership coach said it was days like today that helped justify the effort that he has put into the side, with the win being up there with his previous achievements as a head coach.

“Plenty of people have challenged what we’ve done, but this is the reason why you do it,” he said on SEN’s Broncos Radio.

“What you’ve just saw then and what you’ve seen in the last month… I’ve been really fortunate to experience it with other great clubs in Wigan and Souths.

“And to be able to do that now (with Brisbane), it’s up there with one of the best.”

This win is now the club's seventh NRL premiership.
