“Young and talented”: Stars the Tassie Devils should go after

As part of the Tasmania Devils’ list concessions, they'll be able to sign a maximum of one uncontracted player per club essentially as a free agent across the 2027 and 2028 AFL off-seasons.

SEN Tassie Breakfast's Brent Costelloe and former Essendon and Brisbane small forward Josh Green named the uncontracted players in ‘27 and ‘28 from each club they’d sign to the Devils if they were in charge.

The boys were not considering salary cap, simply putting forward the players they’d like in Tassie colours.

“It’s going to be tricky to fit them all in the salary cap,” Costelloe admitted.

Riley Thilthorpe

Green: “You obviously want to build your spine. The full-forward who had a really good year is the one from Adelaide for me.”

Darcy Wilmot

Green: “Bit of spunk, young, drive off half-back which is important, uses it quite well.”

Lachie Cowan

Green: “I don’t think we’d get Jagga Smith, so I’d go Lachie, the Tassie boy.”

Patrick Lipinski

Green: “It’s not a great list (for Tassie), maybe Lipinski just for a bit of midfield depth. He has a bit of experience, good leader.”

Nate Caddy

Green: “I’d go Caddy. Young and talented, he’s going to be good.”

Caleb Serong

Costelloe: “I love Jordan Clark.”

Green: “I do too, he had a great year. I like Caleb Serong too just quietly.”

Costelloe: “I’d build the midfield so I’d go Serong.”

Max Holmes

Costelloe: “I’m going with Max Holmes.”

Connor O’Sullivan

Green: “Connor O’Sullivan as a tall defender, we’ll probably need one of those.”

Bailey Humphrey

Costelloe: “Humphrey for me.”

Green: “Yep, I like that.”

Tom Green

Costelloe: “We want ‘Leakey’ (James Leake) to come back but I like Tom Green.”

Green: “I’m with you on that one.”

Green: “Ginni! A bit of spunk, small forward.”

Green: “I’d go Harvey Langford.”

Trent Rivers

Costelloe: “I love Trent Rivers. I’ll go with him.”

Costelloe: “Come home please, Colby.”

Green: “We know who we want!”

Costelloe: “Can we get the ‘Hornet’ (Jason Horne-Francis) down?”

Green: “No chance, he’s already moved home from North.”

Costelloe: ”Let’s go with Bergman.”

Green: “Yep, I like him.”

Luke Trainor

Costelloe: “Sammy Banks is pretty happy at Richmond after having a discussion with him last week.”

Green: “I don’t think we’re going to get him. So I’d probably go Luke Trainor.”

Alix Tauru

Green: “I like Tauru, he’s a really good young player.”

Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera

Costelloe: “I’ll just go with Wanganeen-Milera even though I know we’re not going to get him.”

Errol Gulden

Costelloe: “Errol for me. Not going to get him probably, but I love him.”

Green: “It would be Errol or Chad.”

Reuben Ginbey

Costelloe: “I don’t think we’re prising Harley out of the Eagles?”

Green: “We’d obviously love him, but I’m going to go Reuben Ginbey.”

Costelloe: “I do like Ginbey, I think he’d be a good target.”

Green: “I like Sam Davidson out of the Dogs if available.”
