North Melbourne has created history by becoming the first AFLW side to have won back-to-back premierships following a 40-point win against Brisbane at a sold-out IKON Park in the 2025 AFLW Grand Final on Saturday night.

The Kangaroos have only added to their legacy of a now burgeoning dynasty, having now gone yet another season undefeated, which has extended their unbeaten streak to 29 games.

This was in the face of Lions who came out firing, having managed to get the first goal of the match through Charlotte Mullins within the first two and a half minutes, which saw them hold possession in their attacking half.

North Melbourne was able to weather the Lions as they still managed to get their opportunities inside 50 with Eilish Sheerin and Bella Eddey scoring goals to see them leading by five points at quarter time.

The Lions would start the second in a similar vein, with the ball being in their attacking half for the first five minutes, but this only bore one point.

But a 100 metre penalty from Brisbane’s Shannon Campbell towards Kate Sheirlaw on the wing after pushing her to the ground and then running in her way changed the momentum of the game.

That would make up two of the four 50m penalties that Brisbane conceded throughout the match.

The Roos continued their dominance, managing to kick three unanswered goals to push the margin beyond touching distance with their ability to find uncontested possessions and win stoppage clearance being evident through league best and fairest Ash Riddell and Sheerin.

Both players would have strong performances with Riddell picking up a match high 38 disposals while Sheerin got 28 who was then awarded as the best on ground medal.

A Jasmine Garner running goal from turnover to open the fourth quarter would seal the result in their favour with North Melbourne's fans singing for one and all at the final siren.

While the Kangaroos were able to dominate around the stoppage, it was ultimately their efficiency in front of goal that was in their favour, managing to kick nine goals from 34 inside 50s (26%) compared to Brisbane's two from 38 inside 50s (5%).

The Kangaroos now join Adelaide and the Lions to have won multiple AFLW premierships.
