Who is in the running to win the 2025 Australian Open?
While some of the world’s biggest names are set to feature at Royal Melbourne, the field deepens far beyond the top talent, with several golfers expected to put their best foot forward in the Open’s return.
And with a top contingency of Australian golfers featuring on home soil, managing editor of Australian Golf Digest Steve Keipert has named his tip to win the first Australian Open at Royal Melbourne since 1991.
“I have to say Marc Leishman,” Keipert told SEN Sportsday.
“Just based off of what I saw of him, and the way he had this quiet confidence about him finishing the tournament yesterday.
“He wasn’t defeated, he wasn’t beaten or feeling like he missed a chance, he is more a guy that says ‘hey, it didn’t come this week, but it is going to’.
“He has got experience around the Sandbelt, coming from Warrnambool and playing a lot in Melbourne growing up.
“I just feel like, particularly with the change of weather we might be in for, he’s as good a bet as anybody.”
The 42-year-old has won six times on the PGA tour, finishing tied for third at the Australian PGA Championship in the lead into the Australian Open.
As it stands, Leishman enters as the fifth favourite in the bookies at around $15 (at the time of writing).
