North Melbourne have made a call on their captaincy for 2026, with star forward Nick Larkey handed the honours to replace Jy Simpkin.

Simpkin, who captained the side for three years, stepped out of the role after requesting to leave the club during the trade period. Following a club vote, Larkey has been adjudicated as the club's next leader.

The 27-year-old key forward has enjoyed a stellar career with the Kangaroos thus far, playing 134 games and earning an All-Australian nod in 2023. Larkey co-vice captained the Kangaroos in 2025, alongside young superstar Harry Sheezel.

Joining Larkey, the Roos new-look leadership core will be made up of Sheezel, Luke Davies-Uniacke, Tristan Xerri, Charlie Comben and Cam Zuurhar.

The decision will have to be ratified by the North Melbourne board before being made official.
