Top jockey suffers serious injuries after fall

The Victorian Jockeys Association has confirmed that top jockey Declan Bates has sustained fractures to his pelvis and sacrum (lower back), following a fall at the Ballarat jumpouts on Monday.

The five-time Group 1 winner may also have a possible T4 fracture, which is yet to be confirmed.

At this stage no surgery is required for the hoop, but the timeline of his return is still unknown.

The Australian Jockeys Association also sent a public message of support to the injured Irishman.
