Reece Walsh and Josh Addo-Carr’s managers have been slapped with huge fines and 12 month bans by the NRL.
Nash Dawson, Chris Orr, Mario Tartak and Matt Desira have all been sanctioned for breaches of the Accredited Agent Scheme Rules.
Rugby league journalist Michael Carayannis said that players aligned to the banned managers have the potential to negotiate away from their current deals.
Walsh’s manager Dawson has been banned for nine months and fined $15,000, Addo Carr’s agent Tartak has been rubbed out for a year and will pay $25,000.
"If your agents gets suspended, you can essentially become a free agent," Carayannis said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.
"You could potentially get out of your contract.
"Chirs Orr has a big agency with his brother Gavin so you could just sign all those players to Gavin.
"The suspension does give the players a potential to leave (their agency). These bans would hurt a smnall agency.
"The NRL will crack down on any of these guys that are scene talking to clubs. They will get huge suspensions after that."
According to the NRL, it was alleged that “Mr Tartak communicated with an underage player without a parent and/or legal guardian being present. It was also alleged that Mr Tartak entered into a commercial arrangement with two NRL Clubs, in breach of the NRL Accredited Agent Scheme Rules.”
Walsh's manager "breached the NRL Accredited Agent Scheme Rules and the Accredited Agents’ Code of Conduct following a physical altercation with agent Chris Orr following the Australian Secondary Schools Rugby League Championships in 2024."
It was also alleged Dawson failed to co-operate with the NRL Integrity Unit.
Desira and Orr have both been banned for six months and fined $10,000.
Orr, who manages Dylan Brown, also failed to co-operate with the integrity unit and "breached the NRL Accredited Agent Scheme Rules and the Accredited Agents’ Code of Conduct following a physical altercation with agent Nash Dawson following the Australian Secondary Schools Rugby League Championships in 2024."
The NRL said the following about Desira: "The determination relates to non-reporting and dishonesty following police charges and court proceedings which were brought against Mr Desira."
