Melbourne has appointed former Collingwood list manager Ned Guy as the Demons’ Chief of Football and Innovation.

Guy takes up the newly created role after four years at the AFL as Head of Football Performance, List Management and Engagement.

The former player manager’s last stint at clubland drew plenty of attention due to Collingwood’s controversial reset of their list in 2020, which saw them give away Adam Treloar, Jaidyn Stephenson and Tom Phillips. He quit the Pies less than a year later in May of 2021.

While Guy was criticised at the time, his decisions ultimately played a part in Collingwood’s premiership success in 2023.

Guy’s appointment at Melbourne comes amid sweeping changes at the club with President Steven Smith, CEO Paul Guerra and coach Steven King all stepping into their new roles in recent months.

Guerra was thrilled to add Guy to the club’s football department.

“Ned is a highly capable and analytically minded executive with over 15 years of experience across the AFL industry,” Guerra said via a statement.

“He comes to the Demons with a rare 360-degree perspective of footy, having operated as a Player Manager, a club-based General Manager of List and most recently as a senior leader within the AFL.

“We are excited by Ned’s ability to impact and support our football programs, while also utilising his expertise across the business more broadly.”

Guy commences with the club in February ahead of the 2026 AFL season.
