In September of last year, the Bulldogs confirmed that Adam Treloar had signed a one-year contract extension at Mission Whitten Oval, locking him in until the end of 2026.
However, the 32-year-old midfielder experienced one of his worst seasons in 2025, only managing four games after a recuring calf issue pestered him all season.
Despite that disappointing season, the 258-game player actually enjoyed an All-Australian season in 2024, proving that he still has the ability to dominate at the top level.
Still, Josh Jenkins was “opposed” to the contract extension, especially because the Bulldogs’ midfield already consists of guns like Marcus Bontempelli, Tom Liberatore, Ed Richards and emerging stars such as Ryley Sanders and Joel Freijah.
“Adam Treloar got the extension at the Dogs - I was probably more opposed to that,” Jenkins told SEN's The Run Home.
“Because I think around the ball, they all watch the ball, they all hunt the ball and they all get forward of the ball.
“He does that maybe more than any.
“I don't know if he fits in that group. Not ahead of Freijah or Sanders.”
Daniel Harford couldn’t back Jenkins though.
Harf agrees with the Bulldogs decision to re-sign Treloar but admitted that he wouldn’t be playing the veteran through the midfield.
“I'd be playing him (but) I wouldn't be playing him in the midfield,” Harf said.
“I’d play him in that connecting forward role that goes up to the front of the stoppage and then rolls forward.
“He does a lot of damage, hits the scoreboard a lot.
“(However), his body is a concern, It's broken down a lot in the last couple of years.”
Adam Treloar will complete his 16th straight season in 2026.
