When your dad is a living NRL legend with 347 caps to his name, there are big shoes to fill.

But Wylei Parker – son of Broncos hero Corey – has taken his first step towards mirroring his dad’s success after signing a contract with the Dolphins.

The soon-to-be 15-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with be part of the academy and developmental part of the Queensland outfit.

Asked about the opportunity on SENQ Breakfast, Parker senior said: “It’s a proud moment for us; I’m looking forward to his journey and being a part of that.

“The year kids turn 15 is the year they can be contracted. Pretty much it instils them as part of the academy and the clubs wasn’t to nurture and develop the kids.

“They do two sessions a month, they go on tour and it’s about developing the kids. It’s a great opportunity for him to be part of it.

“We are very excited and happy he can start his journey. He played half-back most of his junior years but is now hooker.

“He enjoys contact, he is quick – gets that from his mum.

“They want to make sure they can still be kids and enjoy their adolescent years. It’s exciting for him and it’s interesting because there’s so many variables at that age.

“It’s an opportunity that as a parent, you just want your kids to enjoy it and we support it.”
