Can Melbourne United turn their form around before the NBL finals?

After a dominant start to the season, United have slipped to fourth, losing nine of their last 14 games.

While they’ll still make the play-in, finishing somewhere between third and sixth, can they turn things around enough to win it all?

Aussie basketball Chris Anstey thinks they can, but they must not focus on where they’ll finish and instead put all of their energy into getting their game into good order.

“The priority for United must be forget where you finish,” Anstey told SEN Afternoons.

“They’d love to finish top four and have home court crossover even if they lose that play-in game.

“But the goal just has to be playing good basketball. If they do that, they’ll probably find they’ll finish third or fourth.

“When they hit the semi-finals, they’re capable of beating everyone, but it’s been provable they’re very beatable when they’re not at their best.

“At the start of the year, they were playing unbelievable basketball. They’ve hit a few speed bumps.

“I think they’ll be in the semi-finals, and once they’re there, I think they can beat anyone.”

United play four more games for the rest of the regular season. Their next clash comes against the Adelaide 36ers at John Cain Arena on Saturday night.
