After the excitement of Hobart Cup Day a week earlier, thoroughbred action returns to Hobart on Sunday for an eight-race program.
The rail moves out to +9m after being at +6m for the Cup meeting last Sunday.
The weather forecast is fine, likely resulting in a good-rated track.
Race 3 – 2. Flying Billie
Flying Billie hasn’t been at his absolute best this preparation, but in turn has bumped into some smart winners. Back to BM68 grade on his home track, the race sets up well for him to control the speed and land another win.
Race 2 – 1. Alpine Whiskey
Alpine Whiskey has been smashed in the market at his last two starts with mixed results. Two starts back he was too bad to be true, and he showed that last time when he beat all bar Silver Grange, with a huge margin back to third. He’s a typical Alpine Eagle who seems to be improving with racing, and from a soft draw, I can’t see why he shouldn’t be in the finish again.
Race 7 – 4. Goddess of Rock
Goddess of Rock is flying this campaign. She beat the Strutt Stakes winner two start ago and was set an impossible task on Derby Day when settled a clear last. Her closing sectionals were outstanding there, and if she can be within striking distance here, she’ll be very hard to hold out.
