In his first match as a Cowboy, Andrew Voss believes that Reed Mahoney has fitted into the side seamlessly as he looks to prove a point following his exit from the Bulldogs.
Having played for the side for the last three seasons, the 27-year-old decided to leave the club following a reshuffling of the spine to accommodate the signing of Lachlan Galvin.
Signing a three-year contract, which saw the Cowboys find a replacement for Reece Robson, the hooker admitted he had big shoes to fill.
But with two try assists alongside two line break assists in North Queensland’s 66-24 win against an inexperienced Penrith side on Friday, Mahoney looked more than capable of filling the void left by the NSW representative.

Whilst acknowledging that he does take pre-season form with a grain of salt, he did think that Mahoney slotted into the No. 9 jersey ‘like a hand in glove’.
“I know it was totally against a mismatch of sentiment, but I thought Reed Mahoney was like a hand in glove,” Voss said on SENQ Breakfast.
“I think he fitted perfectly into the Cowboys.
“There’s a very motivated player with a point to prove.
“I think Reed Mahoney is going to hit the ground running for the Cowboys.”
Voss’ sentiment was also one shared by coach Todd Payten following their win against the Panthers.
“I thought he was outstanding,” he told club media.
“(He’s) very direct with his style of play. Set up a couple of tries.

“His service is really good. He’s a complete player and team player.”
Following their wins in the pre-season challenge against the Bulldogs last week and Panthers, the Cowboys will be gearing up for their trip to Las Vegas.
They’ll play the Newcastle Knights at Allegiant Stadium on March 1.
