Kane Cornes would already have ‘buyer’s remorse’ if he were St Kilda after recruiting Sam Flanders from Gold Coast.
Flanders joined the Saints last trade period after 89 games for the Suns in exchange for Pick 7, and after just one game in the red, white and black, Cornes thinks it was too high a price to pay.
While the midfielder had 28 disposals in his first game for St Kilda, Cornes wasn’t impressed with the one clearance to his name and 61% disposal efficiency in the 12-point loss to Collingwood.
He discussed with David King on SEN Breakfast whether St Kilda would already be regretting the deal they offered Flanders.
Cornes: “Any buyer's remorse on old Sam Flanders? There has to be buyer’s remorse.
“What was it, pick seven and a $900,000 wage?”
King: “It’s a bit early.”
Cornes: “Well, I don't know. Gold Coast clearly saw something because they moved him quick sticks out of their midfield.”
King: “Gold Coast have upgraded everywhere.”
Cornes: “I understand, but they saw this 12 months prior to anyone else. Flanders was a ball magnet that was playing midfield, and they said, ‘No, I think we've had a couple go past you, let’s find you a new role’.
“That’s a big money deal for a player who thinks he's a designated kicker that can't hit a target.”
King: “He's a designated misser, is he?”
Cornes: “He thinks he should be the designated kicker, and he can't hit one.”
King: “Is he a stylish misser?”
Cornes: “No. Like good luck, go and get your 25 or 30 every week. Who cares? There's an issue there.”
Flanders will be hoping to have a bigger impact when the Saints face the Demons at the MCG on Sunday afternoon.
