Stay together: Cripps’ pointed message to Carlton fans

Carlton captain Patrick Cripps has a message for Blues supporters in 2026 - stay together.

The skipper’s message came while talking to SEN’s Blues Radio after the club’s four-point win over Richmond on Thursday night.

While fans would have been happy to get a win on the board, many weren’t all that pleased with the victory, given the rebuilding Richmond side had every right to win after dominating the second half.

With pressure building on coach Michael Voss and a 63-point Opening Round loss to Sydney compounding that, Cripps urged fans to ‘stay tight’ with the club this season and ride the bumps together given 2026 won’t always be smooth sailing.

“I just wanted to say one last thing, I know this is the Blues Radio, but it is so important as a club we stay together,” Cripps said.

“This year's not going to be smooth sailing, but the most important thing is we unite together.

“When things don't go your way, you stick together, but when the good times come, let's enjoy them together.

“So, stay tight, keep enjoying the year and let's go at it.”

Even if some felt the win was almost like a loss, Cripps didn’t see things that way as he hopes the victory helps the club build momentum into the season.

“Winning any game in AFL footy is bloody hard,” Cripps said.

“I’m just proud of the boys, the way to get it done, but obviously we've got a lot to work on.

“At the start of the year, sometimes you've just got to get a win on the board and create some momentum.

“We've got a lot of new guys on this side, we're going to keep building, keep growing, and we'll be fine, mate.”

Cripps and Carlton next have the bye before facing Melbourne at the MCG in Round 3.
