Following the Warriors' perfect start to the 2026 season, Denan Kemp believes coach Andrew Webster should keep Tanah Boyd as halfback once Luke Metcalf returns.
In their first two matches against the Roosters and Raiders, the Wahs scored 40+ points on both occasions, showing plenty of attacking prowess.
That has been helped by the impact of Tanah Boyd in the halves.
Having filled in since Metcalf’s devastating ACL injury last season, the former Titans player started this year in the No. 7 jersey with some brilliant form, having either assisted or scored six of the Warriors’ 14 tries this season.
Considering the 25-year-old’s impact so far, Kemp thinks the Warriors should keep him at seven while shifting Metcalf – who led last year’s Dally M race as a halfback before his injury – to the five-eighth position when he returns.
“This is one of the better performances from the Warriors I’ve seen in a very long time,” Kemp said on SEN’s Saturday League Kick-Off.
“What’s crazy about it is (Chanel) Harris-Tavita, you could argue that, especially with the form of Tanah Boyd, he’s their third-string half.
“Right now, Metcalf would come in at six because it feels better for me with Metcalf at six.
“I know he was outstanding at seven last year. I actually think he suits a six more and Tanah Boyd, stylistically (is more suited) to a traditional seven than a six.”
The Warriors will look to keep their unbeaten start going when they make their first away trip for the season against the Knights in Newcastle.
That will take place next Saturday, with kick-off at 3pm AEDT.
Metcalf is expected to return to the NRL in Round 7 or 8 following his knee surgery.
