Tasracing's Friday best bets at Launceston (03/04)

The annual tradition of Good Friday racing in Launceston continues in 2026 with nine races on the card.

Just three meetings remain in Launceston for the season, and the rail comes back into the true after being at +7m for the program a week ago.

Fine weather is forecast, with the first race set for 13:07.

Best Bet

Race 9 – 2. It’s Jagger Time

Let’s hope the last is worth waiting for with the best bet on the program. I liked the return run of It’s Jagger Time in a race run to suit the leader; he was clearly the best of the closers with a solid margin back to the third horse. He’s won two of three second-up, and the 1400m is his pet distance. I have him as a clear favourite in the race, and he’s on the third line of betting at the time of writing.

Race 3 – 2. Called Through

It’s been a long campaign for Called Through, who has continually raced without luck and should’ve won a maiden long before now. His racing pattern is the biggest issue: he constantly settles back in the field and runs into traffic. For this reason, I don’t mind the wideish draw and the rider change, with Jabez Johnstone taking the ride, appears a positive. He’s had plenty of chances, but I’m keen to give him another.

Race 6 – 7. Thonatus

Thonatus broke through two starts ago at big odds, and I think he can again here. He had good market support last time and was a complete forgive run, getting shuffled well back in the pack despite jumping well. That form is expected to stand up with Elegantly Written towards the head of the market for the preceding race. There are two of Thonatus, and he’s a horse that often needs luck, but he’s the right price to be taking a chance.
