When Cornes expects Blues to part ways with Voss

Both David King and Kane Cornes believe it’s inevitable now that Carlton will move on from Michael Voss this year; the question is now simply when the call is made.

Voss’ Blues slumped to 1-3 on Good Friday as they were beaten from behind again, this time by North Melbourne by 10 points after leading by as much as 21 midway through the last term.

Already without a contract for 2027, King asked Cornes where he sees the situation.

The Port Adelaide great looked ahead at Carlton’s fixture and predicted that he won’t be there by Round 11, with six hard games coming up on the fixture.

While King also can’t see Voss staying on long-term, he doesn’t see the value in sacking a coach that early in the season.

King: “What’s your read on the Voss situation, and the numbers are stark, aren't they?

“First half, they're the second-best team in the comp at +104 points. Second half, they’re the worst team in the comp, -166 points.

“You don't see numbers like that, do you?”

Cornes: “It’s extraordinary.”

King: “They do so much right and then so much wrong. I can't help but feel for him.

“Once it starts, you just know what's going on; it’s like you've seen the movie before.

“You've read the book, you know how it finishes, it's just a matter of who does it. It's just hard to watch.

“What do you think they'll do with Voss? Where do you sit with it?”

Cornes: “They've only played one good team, one genuine contender, so the tough stuff's coming.

“They’re prime time now, at least for the next two weeks.

“Just when Vossy wants a 1:10pm Sunday… he cops Adelaide to start Gather Round and then Collingwood the following Thursday at the ‘G in front of 85,000.

“Then you get Freo, St Kilda, Brisbane and the Bulldogs…

“I'm a fan of his, but I'd be surprised if he's there by Round 11.”

King: “No, he'll be there. I don't see the upside in sacking him before Round 11.”

Cornes: “It's just the circuit breaker you need. It's a pretty shocking spot that they've already put him in with the list and also searching for another coach when he's still there.

“I mean, it's torture.

“Ken Hinkley was just crying out for someone to put him out of his misery last year.

“So, I think Vossy will need to be probably shown that respect at about Round 11.”

Carlton next face Adelaide to open Gather Round on Thursday night at the Adelaide Oval.
