Which club is the most efficient from set shots so far in 2026?
It’s a skill that is paramount in the game, allowing (mainly) forwards to finish the good upfield work of their teammates.
But it’s not always an easy task with even the most seasoned player crumbling under set shot pressure.
Ask Richmond players who converted just one of their first eight set shots in the eventual 75-point loss to North Melbourne, as the Roos bagged nine set shots on the trot.
Geez, we do love a ladder, and this week’s focus is the Set Shot Conversion.
Thanks to numbers from Champion Data, we’ve broken down each club by goals from set shots, behinds from set shots, complete misses from set shots and total set shots, coming up with a set shot conversion percentage.
See the breakdown below:
1 - North Melbourne (106)
Eq.2 - Geelong (104)
Eq.2 - Brisbane (104)

Riding the wave of momentum under Steven King, Melbourne is the most efficient side when it comes to converting their set shots.
The Demons have buried 53 of their 83 set shots at a league-high conversion percentage of 63.8%.
They sit clear of Essendon on 60.3% efficiency having converted 41 of 68 set shots, while North Melbourne have kicked the most set shot goals with 63 from their 106 attempts at 59.4%.
Making up the top five is Port Adelaide (58.6%) and Gold Coast (58.1%) who have been aided by Ben King’s remarkable accuracy.
At the other end of the scale, Richmond has converted just 34 set shots from 82 attempts at a paltry 41.4%.
GWS are second bottom on 44% with 37 goals from 84 shots, while St Kilda (45%), Carlton (46.7%) and West Coast (47.2%).
The AFL average across the competition is a 52.5% conversion rate.

The best individual conversion rate comes form North’s Cooper Trembath who has booted 13 goals from 15 set shot attempts at a cool 86.7% efficiency.
All 13 of Trembath's goals have come from set shots and one of his two set shot misses was going through until it was touched on the line against Brisbane.
Mitch McGovern has been a dependable set shot source for Carlton with eight goals from 10 set shots at 80%, alongside former Blues teammate, Port Adelaide’s Corey Durdin, who has the same return.
Gold Coast’s sharp shooter Ben King has nailed 19 of his 24 set shots at 79.1% while Melbourne recruit Brody Mihocek has converted nine of 12 set shot attempts at 75%.
We’ve included the top 25 conversion rates of players who have had 10 set shots or more so far in 2026.
