2023 redraft: Peter Bell reshapes the Top 10

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Two years and eight weeks might not be enough to fully understand how good a talented youngster is but it can give us a guide.

Peter Bell has used that guide to reshape the 2023 AFL Draft which saw Harley Reid taken by West Coast at Pick 1.

It is not based on what the teams need, but purely on what he thinks should be the Top 10.

Former Fremantle and North Melbourne star and ex-Dockers footy boss Bell has delved into that draft and rejigged what he believes would be the Top 10 if it happened right now.

10 - Caleb Windsor (MEL)

“Not sold on his inside mid work at Melbourne. I think he’ll eventually get back to the wing.”

9 - Darcy Wilson (STK)

“From Pick 18 up to 9 with a bullet is Darcy Wilson.”

8 - Jed Walter (GCS)

“Walter was originally Pick 3, has dropped to 8.”

7 - Ethan Read (GCS)

“He’s come up a little bit from 9.”

6 - Daniel Curtin (ADE)

“He was originally Pick 8 and comes back to 6. He’s back for the Showdown tonight.”

5 - Connor O’Sullivan (GEE)

“Top 5 up from 11 is Connor O’Sullivan. He’s going really well at Geelong, the big key back.”

4 - Nate Caddy (ESS)

“He’s up to 4 from 10. I know his performances probably haven’t been as good as what you’d expect but this is more on potential.”

3 - Colby McKercher (NM)

“Just slides down one spot.”

“I’ve got Harley at 2 with ‘The Wizard’ at Pick 1 in my rework of the 2023 draft.”

Tim Gossage added: “Let me tell you, if West Coast didn’t take Harley Reid, they were going to take Nick Watson.”
