If the World Cup was awarded to the best commercials then the trophy to Adidas now. Everyone else can go home.
The sportswear giants have released a $50 ($94m AUD) million advert ahead of this year’s FIFA World Cup, and it’s pure Hollywood.
David Beckham and his catalogue of iconic haircuts (thank you AI), Lionel Messi, Zinedine Zidane, Alessandro del Piero and Bad Bunny are just some of the iconic names to feature in the five-minute epic with Timothee Chamalet taking centre stage.
The Oscar nominated actor brings together a three-person side to take on the local legends trio - Clive, Ruthie and Isaak - who have not lost since 1996, beating Zizou, Becks and Del P in that time.
Titled “Backyard Legends”, Chamalet’s team is made up of Yamine Lamal, Jude Bellingham and Trinity Rodman who he challenges to break the three-decade dominance of the locals.
Watching on as the two sides prepare to play, Messi is sat with Bad Bunny on the sidelines with cameos from Ousmane Dembele, Raphinha, Pedri, Florian Wirtz and Santiago Gimenez.
Fairly clear to see how the rumoured $50m budget got chewed up.
