Andrew Flintoff is set to be appointed as the head coach of the Sydney Thunder, reports News Corp’s Ben Horne.
The England legend will replace former England World Cup winning coach Trevor Bayliss, who left the franchise after a wooden spoon finish in BBL|15.
Flintoff was one of the BBL’s biggest stars as a player for the Brisbane Heat in the 2014/15 summer.
As a coach, Flintoff spent last summer in charge of the England Lions, while he’s previously coached franchise short-form cricket for the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred.
Flintoff will link up with David Warner and young Aussie star Sam Konstas with the Thunder who have missed out on playing finals in each of the last two BBL seasons.
It’s believed he beat out former Big Bash star Dan Christian and former England keeper James Foster to land the Thunder job.
The Sydney franchise were said to previously be pursuing former player Michael Hussey as coach before the ex-Aussie star withdrew from the race.
