This week is all about celebrating Collingwood legend Scott Pendlebury as he gets set to break the all-time V/AFL games record on Saturday afternoon at the MCG.

Pendlebury will reach game No. 433 against the Eagles, surpassing current record holder Brent Harvey, who retired with 432 games to his name.

With the milestone truly historic and potentially never to be seen again, Collingwood and the AFL are doing everything in their power to celebrate the player and the milestone.

SEN’s Tom Morris revealed some other initiatives that the club and competition are set to complete this week on top of those that are already known, like the gold number 10 and various merchandising options.

“So, it’s Scott Pendlebury week,” Morris told SEN Breakfast.

“This afternoon, Kevin Bartlett, Michael Tuck, Brent Harvey, Shaun Burgoyne and Dustin Fletcher are all invited to the MCG with Pendles to commemorate game 433.

“Then on Saturday twilight, there’s a 2010 premiership reunion of sorts as well. Footy staff, AFL commissioners, the past CEOs, past Presidents, the 400 Club, 2023 retired players and premiership players are all there.

“Then, at the 10-minute mark of the first quarter, the plan is for the whole stadium to erupt in applause for Scott Pendlebury. That’s a fan-led applause at the 10-minute mark of the first quarter to commemorate the achievement for Pendles.

“It (the crowd) has to be right up the very top (towards 90,000+).”

Responding to a SEN Breakfast fan who suggested the game be moved to 4:33pm on Saturday instead of 4:35pm to commemorate the number of games, Kane Cornes drew a line on how much the club should do before it’s ‘overdoing’ the celebration.

“We've got enough Pendlebury initiatives. We've got a gold jumper. How much can we overdo it?” Cornes asked.

“They're doing a great job, and it's going to be huge celebrations. But we don't need little sort of gimmicks.

“A gold number is a gimmick. Standing at the 10-minute mark is a gimmick. All worthwhile gimmicks, mind you, but we don't need to overdo it.”
