The market is disrespecting St Lawrence!

That is exactly what Gavin Bedggood exclaimed when speaking about the gelding’s $41 starting price in Race 8 at Sandown on Saturday.

Early Crow 2

(The market is) very much so (disrespecting St Lawrence),” stated the trainer on SENTrack & RSN’s Giddy Up.

“He's got a great first-up record, he's trialled really well, his work's been super, and I think he's going as good as ever since we've had him.”

The seven-year-old’s first-up record is 3-0-1 from five starts, and he doesn’t mind a soft track as well, winning two races and placing five times from 10 starts.

In his two trials leading into this first-up run, he has finished fifth across 800m and won across 1000m – promising signs for the roughie.

The son of Redwood has drawn barrier 5 in the 1400m race – a barrier which Giddy Up host Gareth Hall labelled as “perfect” – Bedggood agreed with that call, explaining why the barrier will help St Lawrence storm home in the final 200m.

“Lovely - nice resting run and riding to be produced late,” Bedggood continued.

“I think he is a horse that if he sort of gets clean air too far out, he sort of looms and labours late.

“But if he can sort of have that ducking and weaving ride and get clean air inside the last 200m, you'll see him run a very big race.”

Since Bedggood gave a huge push for his horse, the gelding has come into $23 with Sportsbet – a huge market move, but still a juicy number to punt on.

For his $100 Stable Mail play, the trainer also suggested a $50 each-way bet on St Lawrence.
