SENTrack’s Miles Pfitzner has had a deep think and delivered his 11 most overrated things in racing.
From Pride Of Jenni to quaddies, Pfitzner has covered all aspects of the sport.
See Pfitzner’s list below:
“So, anyone in racing, the inability to cop criticism, whether you tip against their horse or whether you talk about jockey rides, whatever, the inability to cop criticism," Pfitzner said on SENTrack's Lay Back.
“Overrated!”
“She's a superstar, but come on,” Pfitzner started.
“The other headlines during the week (by Jenni’s owner Tony Ottobre), ‘The criticism of my horse has been disgusting’, your horse is a superstar!
“Everyone loves your horse, they love your horse, I love your horse.
“She just got her head kicked in by Birdman.”
“Reheated soup - I'm talking about the marketing gimmicks.”
“So one person does one thing and then every other race club in Australia tries to redo it exactly the same.
“Come up with your own ideas, you can't all be Johnny Kanga!”
“Inverted commas, ‘Racing Twitter’, that they call themselves this sanctity of experts that normally hide behind some sort of ‘Something Bets’ (username) or profile," continued Pfitzner.
“All they want to do is pot and they hugely rate themselves.
“Racing Twitter is overrated.”
“No one really cares about too many retirements.”
“Then that runs into the overuse of the word ‘Superstar’ or ‘Star’. So, horses that won a Group 1 or they've won a couple of Group 1s and they get retired.
“Horses get retired all the time!”
“Overrated!”
“So, people saying that you get banned, you don't get banned, you get restricted, and we all know that. It's too hard!”
“I call them COVID racing analysts," Pfitzner exclaimed.
“Most of them got started (during COVID). There's a generation of them that got started during COVID and they went, ‘Oh, here's a ratings platform’, and bang, racing expert.
“A lot of people treat them like gospel, ratings. They're way overrated.”
“It's exactly what I'm doing right now.”
“Winx versus Black Caviar, you can't compare them.
“Makybe Diva versus something else, you can't compare them.
“Zac Purton versus James McDonald, you can’t compare them."
“The number one overrated thing in racing, hands down is futures betting," Pfitzner finished on.
“Futures betting is so overrated, so overrated. That turns into golden tickets for Melbourne Cups, horses that get over overhyped during the winter that then roll out in the spring.
“Futures betting is a dead set minefield.
“Depends on your staking, if you want to play or set fire to some money, go your hardest.”
