It's an early start for Sunday racing in Hobart with the first race scheduled for 11:03.
Solid rain throughout the week sees the track posted as a soft 7 on Friday, but it should improve with fine weather forecast for the weekend.
The rail is back in the true position for the first time since 6 February.
Race 4 – 8. Flying Billie
It’s approaching 12 months (July 2025) since the last win for Flying Billie, but I think he finds his right race on Sunday. He got a bit keen on the speed last time when fourth behind Flying Concello, but that was at 1200m, and three of his six wins have come at Sunday’s distance of 1400m. He’ll get in with 52kg with the claim for Bree Temple, and I think he’ll prove very hard to catch if rated well out in front.
Race 5 – 2. Furneaux
Furneaux made this article a fortnight ago, from the same race as Flying Billie. The pair controlled the speed there, but neither had much peace and were a sitting shot late for a horse that is flying. Furneaux has an inside draw in a race with a stack of speed, giving Sam Kennedy some options if there is high pressure up front. I thought he was a good-each-way bet first-up, and I’m going back to the well again.
Race 7 – 10. Mateus
Sunday’s card looks like a bit of a minefield for punters, with a big chance of some long winners through the day. I think Mateus is going a bit better than his SPs indicate and was unsuited dropping back in distance last start. He was beaten just under three lengths by Quafftide two starts ago and meets him 2.5kg better at the weights. It’s a deep race, as many on this program are, but I can easily see Mateus being well over the odds.
