Carlton has discovered a new gear under interim coach Josh Fraser; however, Champion Data believes much of the credit is owed to Michael Voss.

Only managing one win from his nine games this season, the club came to a mutual agreement with Voss to part ways, ending a five-year run featuring some extreme highs and some difficult lows.

Following their poor start, assistant Josh Fraser took over from Voss and has since led the club to three straight wins, reviving their hopes of extracting some sort of positivity out of what threatened to be a dire year.

Despite Fraser’s immaculate record since taking charge, the deeper statistics show that not all the credit should be delivered to the interim, as Champion Data’s Corey Mobilio explains.

“This is a bit of love to ‘Vossy’, and more so a lag effect,” Mobilio told SEN Breakfast.

“This is a six-week sample size, and across this period of time, Carlton are the second-best ball movement side in the competition.

“We touched on it last week under Josh Fraser, in terms of how they are possessing the ball a little bit more, those short, dinky 45 kicks.

“The lag effect from Voss and obviously giving him a bit of love here – the number one side in this period of time is Sydney. They get a lot of credit with how they move the ball.

“Number three is GWS, and we refer to the tsunami so often.”

Beyond their improvement within this season, Mobilio also identified a statistical triumph from the Michael Voss era, placing his Carlton side as one of the greatest of all time in one unique area.

“One thing with Carlton – until a new coach comes in and recalibrates them, their DNA will never leave them,” he continued.

“They are on track to be the best side in terms of turning a clearance into a score. Third best side on record, the best side we’ve seen since 2008 Hawthorn.”

The Blues face Essendon tonight at the MCG, with a win marking four straight victories and a continued flawless record under Josh Fraser.
