Who could the Socceroos face in the knockouts?

The Socceroos have qualified for the knockouts of a FIFA World Cup™ for only their third time in their history.

Following a nil-all draw against Paraguay in Santa Clara, California, Australia has secured second place in Group D securing an automatic spot in the Round of 32.

So, who could they potentially face in the Round of 32?

As a result of their second place finish, the Socceroos will now play the runner-up of Group G in Dallas on Saturday, July 4 (AEST) with kick-off at 4am.

Group G consists of Belgium, Egypt, Iran and New Zealand.

At this current moment, that opposition would be Iran.

This clash would be the first time that they have made the knockouts at a FIFA World Cup™.

That said, there remains two games to play, taking place tomorrow at 1pm.

Iran face Egypt, who enter as the favourites, while Belgium face New Zealand. If all likely results occur, Egypt will beat Iran, and Belgium will beat New Zealand, leaving the Aussies to play Belgium next weekend.
