The alternating Sundays between Hobart and Devonport continue with Tasmanian thoroughbred action on the synthetic in the state's northwest.

The first race on the eight-event card is set for 11:00.

Best Bet

Race 3 – 1. Turbo Chook

The stats don’t tell the story of how well Turbo Chook is going this time in, having been unplaced in three runs for the campaign. He was forced to go back to the tail from a wide gate at the track and distance last start, making excellent ground to just finish off the placings. That’s been a theme for his campaign, but a low draw here should enable him to settle closer, and with even luck, he appears placed for an overdue second career win.

Next best

Race 7 – 1. Captain Cam

Captain Cam wasn’t anywhere near his best last campaign, but he’s a different horse this time around. His first-up run over an unsuitable 1009m was super, and he converted that into a dominant second-up win at 1150m. He steps up again to 1350m, a distance at which he has won twice before. 61.5kg is the obvious concern, but he’ll get an economical run, and I think he can still let down with the big weight to finish over the top of his opposition.

Race 8 – 2. Whippin Piccadilly

In a race of some depth, I’m hoping we’ll see an each-way price about Whippin Piccadilly to finish the day. He’s been a great tried purchase for connections, developing into a consistent earner of cheques, which has been the case again this preparation. He was the only horse who settled close enough to Hartman to make it a race last time, and off that effort, I don’t think the rise to 1880m is a big concern, even though it’s a distance where he’s unproven.
