KLOPP WEIGHS INTO COACH DRAMA
Julian Nagelsmann's role as Germany coach is under a cloud of doubt with fans and experts calling for Jurgen Klopp to replace him after the nation's shock elimination.
Germany were knocked out of the tournament on penalties by Paraguay meaning Germany have not made it beyond the knock out stage for three World Cups.
Nagelsmann has been at the helm since 2023 and insists he wants to remain in the job.
Asked if he would consider the job, Klopp said: “I haven’t thought about that yet.
“I understand that my name is being mentioned now. But it’s not the time to talk about that”
Nagelsmann was asked straight up if he would quit just minutes after the penalty shootout, to which he said: “I would like to continue in the job.
“But I accept that if you are eliminated by Paraguay, you are not a first class football team anymore.
“We just didn’t do enough to win.
“Saying that, in my opinion to call it a foul on the goalkeeper before [Jonathan] Tah scored was a joke.
“We didn’t defend well enough and when we had overloads on the wings we lost control of the ball too much.
“I don’t want to fault the boys because they gave it their all but we need to be faster and while we created enough chances, we were not present enough in the box.”
THE NETHERLANDS ARE GOING HOME!
The Round of 32 is where it ends for Ronald Koemen's men, as the Netherlands are sent home by Morocco after a DRAMATIC penalty shootout in Mexico!
Bart Verbruggen was incredible in net for the Dutch but Morocco's dominance was clear across the afternoon, with Bounou proving the difference during a shakey shootout.
Neither side was able to compose in front of goal, with five misses from their 10 penalties.
But it was Morocco's newest hero Ismael Saibari stepping up to the challenge and tackling it superbly, tucking home Morocco's fifth and final penalty to send his nation to the Round of 16!
A clash with Canada awaits, while the Netherlands head home!
NETHERLANDS:
Koopmeiners tucks home the first penalty!
JUSTIN KLUIVERT MISSES! OFF THE POST!
Weghorst up next... and he nails the top corner!
TIMBER PULLS IT SO FAR WIDE! IT'S A POOR ATTEMPT!
Summerville on the fifth penalty, and it's SAVED BY BOUNOU !!!!!!

MOROCCO:
EL AYNAOUI MISSES! IT'S OFF THE BAR!
Rahimi levels proceedings... just! Verbruggen with the save but it trickles beyond him off his foot!
Talbi tucks it home confidently, it remains level!
HAKIMI OFF THE POST! NEITHER SIDE CAN HOLD THEIR NERVE!
Ismael Saibari with the chance to win the game for Morocco... AND HE DOES JUST THAT!!!!!

STAPLED ON THE FIELD
Blood injuries are always gruesome but imagine having your head stapled on global television!
They're built hard in the Netherlands! Jan Paul van Hecke copped a knee to the head in the first half of what has been an incredible physical clash between the Netherlands and Morocco.
Medics rushed to his side as blood poured from the gash, he was stapled on the field before he was able to make his way off the field by himself before being cleared to return.
The Spurs defender has been in the wars this World Cup having started the tournament with a black eye.
PENALTIES!
We're off to penalties for the second time today, as Morocco and the Netherlands fail to break the deadlock in extra time!
1-1 at full time, the drama is far from over!
IT'S EXTRA TIME IN GUADALUPE!
Issa Diop's equaliser has handed Morocco a lifeline!
A 91st minute header to level proceedings will see the Netherlands and Morocco play an extra half an hour!
1-1 in normal time, 30 minutes to come!
MOROCCO DRAW LEVEL!
We are into injury time! They have done the unthinkable! This looked done and dusted. It's a bullet of a header from the centre back Issa Diop.
It's his first goal for his country - and not one he is going to forget in a while.
GOAL!
The Netherlands have broken the dead lock and it's one of the more emotional goals you will see this World Cup.
In the same week that he and his family announced they had lost their baby boy Elijah during pregnancy, Cody Gakpo has scored a goal that could put his country into the final 16. The emotions are evident on his face. How hard it would have been to motivate himself to play today.
I actually am not sure how he managed to score that; his teammate was fouled but ref did well to allow play to continue, and the ball found its way to Gakpo.

HAVE YOU BEEN PAYING ATTENTION?
"SOFT" CALL AGAINST GERMANY
The SEN Football team of Adam Peacock, Archie Thompson and Jordan Kounelis discussed the incident between German defender Waldemar Anton and Paraguayan goalkeeper Orlando Gill.
Moments prior to Jonathan Tah’s powerful 101st-minute header, which had briefly given Germany a 2-1 lead, Anton made contact with Gill which forced the Paraguay gloveman momentarily to the ground.
Gill bounced to his feet and was in place to try and defend Tah’s back-post header but was unable to do so. The VAR and referee Jalal Jayed then decided to overturn the goal.
All three felt it was a “soft” decision, with Thompson and Kounelis eventually coming around to it being the correct call.
Peacock: “Let’s just say the decision was as soft as a bowl of overcooked noodles.
“Did referee Jayed get it right with this call, going to VAR, and ruling out that goal that Germany scored?”
Thompson: “I thought it was soft at first. I thought that the keeper (Gill) was looking to go and claim that ball, but the ball was nowhere near where he was able to get to.
“I thought Anton stood his ground. That’s what I felt at first and then when you look at the replay he’s actually held him back a little bit.
“Looking back I thought it was soft but it was an offence.”
Kounelis: “It’s a soft one but when you see that Anton almost pushes the goalkeeper down a little bit, you see his knees buckle a bit and he goes to ground on one knee.
“Because of that action I thought they’d turn it over. You could see it coming.
“It’s not much, he hasn’t thrown him to ground, but that little push is just enough.”
Peacock: “Some of the corners in the Premier League this season were like the Royal Rumble where nothing gets given. That was the opposite of that.
“It’s how the referees see it at a FIFA tournament but as long as they’re consistent in the knockout phase then no one can have any issues.”
The disallowed goal forced the game into penalties which Paraguay won 4-3, knocking Germany out of the World Cup.
PARAGUAY HAVE DONE IT! GERMANY ARE OUT!
There could well be riots in Germany over the extra-time VAR decision, but it's Auf Wiedersehen for now my friends and as an Englishwoman, I cannot tell you just how incredible it is to see Germany eliminated on penalties.
This has to be the greatest day in Paraguayan footballing history. And up there as another awful day at the office for Germany. Out in the group stages and now the round of 32 in the last three World Cups. Shocking.
"It is Jose Canale's day, there was no way he was missing that one," former England star Alan Shearer said on the BBC. "He has been magnificent all game, no extra time. No surprise he's the one that stands up and takes responsibility. Paraguay deserve to go through, their football isn't pretty and they don't care."
It's also the first time Germany has ever lost a penalty shoot out at a World Cup.
For Paraguay, in the next round they face the winner of France v Sweden.
GERMANY: ❌⚽⚽❌⚽❌
Paraguay's goalkeeper saves the first! the 26 year-old, solidifying his reputation. I'll say it once, I'll say it again - penalty taking should not allow for stuttered run ups.
Oh the sixth is a travesty from Germany, it's gone over the crossbar.
PARAGUAY: ⚽⚽⚽❌❌⚽
Paraguay three great takes. Holding their nerve.
The nerves and pressure! Sanabria's hit the post on the fourth with the chance to knock Germany out of the World Cup! Could that be the opportunity gone?
I can't deal. Paraguay miss again! That's two opportunities gone. Neuer the hero for Germany at this stage.
Jose Canale has sent Paraguay to the round of 16! It's another World Cup disaster for Germany. An upset of seismic proportions.
WE ARE GOING TO PENALTIES!
The players are exhausted. They have played their hearts out for 120 minutes and it all comes down to the true brutality of penalties.
A little break as they make their selections and then it's the dreaded spot kicks.
GERMANY AT CENTRE OF VAR DRAMA
Germany thought they went 2-1 ahead in extra-time courtesy of a towering header from Jonathan Tah.
Nathaniel Brown whipped in an in-swinging corner which was met powerfully by the Bayern Munich man.
But there was a VAR appeal from Paraguay who felt goalkeeper Orlando Gill was impeded in the lead-up.
Somehow the ref Jalal Jayed has overturned the goal after VAR intervention. It was the softest of touches on Gill who went down easily before returning to his feet only to be beaten by Tah's header.
VAR carnage in Boston.
It's 1-1 in the second half of extra-time.
SOUTH KOREA ON HIGH ALERT
This is ridiculous. Riot police - more than 150 of them - have been deployed to the airport where the South Korea football team is set to land after their exit from the World Cup amid death threats made towards the coach.
Hong Myung-bo was targeted by fans making threats on his life after the side's early exit from Group A.
According to The Sun, a police statement read: “We have decided to deploy officers to prevent safety accidents that may occur during the entry process.
“We will respond strictly to any illegal acts, including the throwing of objects.”
South Korea beat the Czech Republic in their opener before losses to Mexico and South Africa.
Hong immediately resigned from his position after their final match.
Such was the embarrassment of their exit back home, national broadcaster KBS chose to bur the coach's face in his final interview.
Moreover, South Korea President Lee Jae Myung has called for the government's sports ministry to investigate the team's World Cup results and the process by which Hong was employed.

END OF REGULAR TIME
I don't think anyone thought this would go beyond the 90 minutes. Full credit to Paraguay. They haven't held on, they have tested this German line-up relentlessly.
But the Germans are due a goal. They've been on top.
The first of the knockout matches to go to extra-time. It's 15 minutes each way before we go to penalties.
UNITED STAR BREAKS SILENCE ON HORROR INJURY
Manuel Ugarte left the field in tears a few days ago after rupturing his ACL against Spain.
The injury was another blow to his country's miserable World Cup campaign but it also a huge setback for Manchester United's plans to transfer him out of the club this (European) summer.
He has now broken his silence.
“A few days have passed since everything happened," he said in a statement.
“Suffering the most serious injury a footballer can face in one of the most important matches in my country’s history, and seeing it end this way without being able to stay on the pitch and support my team-mates until the final whistle, is something that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
“Hitting rock bottom will make me stronger in every sense, and I truly believe that’s the case here.
“Without a doubt, when life wants you to stop, it finds a way to let you know.
“It’s up to me to take the positives from this. Success in life is about starting again every time you fall.
“I’m incredibly grateful to the Uruguayan federation and United for being there for me from the moment it happened.
“A huge thank you as well to my family, my friends and everyone who has sent me messages of support during this time. I’ll be back stronger.”

GERMANY ARE LEVEL
There is a pulse on the German team finally! and it's a great goal. Remarkable cross from the left and a pinpoint perfect tough from Kai Havertz for his third of the tournament.
They've had five crosses into the danger zone already in the opening 10 minutes of this half. Germany looking far more dangerous.
OH BOY! PARAGUAY SCORE!
No one would have had this on their bingo card but Paraguay are ahead and it's unbelievable just how much space Julio Enciso was given in the area and it's a header that will get a party started in South America.
Moreover the fact he scored with his head and he's 5ft7". Nobody anywhere near him.
The four time winners have looked beyond vanilla so far - and that's an insult to vanilla to be fair. This is a momentous moment, just minutes before the half-time break.
BRAZIL'S WIN AT THE DEATH
In the history of the World Cup, Brazil has never failed to reach the last 16 - and they cut it close this morning with Gabriel Martinelli's winner coming six minutes into injury time.
The result means the internet's viral fan group are heading home and Australia is the last remaining Asian country in the World Cup - not a sentence I thought I would write a few weeks back.
Brazil - Japan was always going to see a big nation head home far earlier than hoped for.
Kaishu Sano gave Japan the lead just before the half hour mark, before Casemiro levelled things out early in the second term.
"I can’t find the words to describe the joy in my heart," Martinelli said. "Seeing all those fans on their feet, my parents, my friends... I can't explain it. After hitting the woodwork, I knew I'd get another chance.
"I honestly don't have the words. I'm just happy I was able to help the team, whether I'm playing on the left or through the middle. The most important thing is helping the team."
Carlo Ancelotti praised his side's patience: "We didn't lose our patience, we had a lot of resources on the pitch and on the bench. Japan isn't an easy opponent, it's very organized and intense.
"I was saving Neymar for the extra time. He was going to enter the pitch on minute 105 if we hadn't scored the second goal. I didn't want to change the structure because the team was playing well."
The South American giants will meet the winner of Norway v Ivory Coast in the next round.
