FULL TIME

Argentina advance!

A superb game of football, Switzerland fought bravely but after Breel Embolo's red card, Argentina's talent was simply too strong.

It goes to 120 minutes and the world champions prevail, it ends Argentina 3-1 Switzerland!

GOAL ARGENTINA !!!!

IT'S ALL OVER! THE WORLD CHAMPIONS ARE THROUGH!

It was brave from Switzerland, who fought tooth and nail to take this contest the distance but it comes up short.

Lautaro Martinez finishes on the break and it's 3-1, Argentina will advance to the semi finals!

It's 3-1 Argentina with seconds to play!

GOAL!

WHAT A GOAL BY JULIAN ALVAREZ!

A STUNNING CURLER FROM RANGE BREAKS SWISS HEARTS!!!!

It was patient by Argentina, who were the only side looking to break through, and after a superb build up around the box, Alvarez took on a strike from range and could not have hit it sweeter!

It nestles into the top corner and Argentina lead after 110 minutes!

It's Argentina 2-1 Switzerland!!!

ET HALF TIME

Switzerland are standing extremely tall, withstanding everything Argentina are throwing at them in extra time.

With only 10 men, the Swiss have every man back in attempt to force a shootout and thus far, it's working, with the champions unable to break through in the first 15.

105 up, it's Argentina 1-1 Switzerland.

FULL TIME

We're heading to extra time for the second time today!

Argentina had all the momentum following Breel Embolo's red card but the Swiss have held on.

90 minutes up, it ends Argentina 1-1 Switzerland, and we are set for another 30 minutes of action!

IT'S RED!

Breel Embolo has been SENT OFF for simulation!

The Swiss striker has received a second yellow card after a dive, and Embolo is devastated!

It's a controversial decision by referee Joao Pedro Silva Pinheiro.

The initial challenge by Argentina's Leandro Paredes was penalised with a yellow card, with Embolo sent crashing to the ground after bing clipped by the midfielder.

However, VAR referred the referee to the monitor, clearly showing Embolo leave the ground before any contact with Paredes was made.

As a result, the foul and yellow card to Paredes was overturned, and the referee has instead shown yellow to Embolo, sending him off after he received his first yellow just shy of the half time break!

Minutes after their equaliser, Switzerland are down to 10 men!

SWITZERLAND EQUALISE!

It's Dan Ndoye and it's 1-1!

Switzerland have been pressing and they finally have the breakthrough!

A lovely finish to level proceedings with 20 minutes of regular time to play.

HALF TIME

Argentina head into half time a goal up, with Alexis Mac Allister's goal after just 10 minutes proving the difference thus far.

Another 45 minutes to come, Argentina 1-0 Switzerland.

GOAL!

Just like that, the champions are ahead within 10 minutes!

Lionel Messi's outswinging corner finds the head of Alexis Mac Allister, and it's 1-0 Argentina!

Messi with an assist - his second of the tournament and 10th direct goal involvement, trailing only Kylian Mbappe (11).

KICK-OFF

Argentina and Switzerland are AWAY in the final Quarter Final matchup in Kansas City!

Can Lionel Messi fire the reigning champions into the semis, or will the Swiss cause an upset?

GOAL CONTROVERSY

There's a big story breaking from this game regarding Jude Bellingham's goal and calls that it should have been disallowed.

This also explains by Norway's coach was going ballistic at half-time. On the whistle he stormed over to the referee to voice his frustrations.

Fox replays suggest that Orjan Nyland's goal-kick hit the cables of the cameras that run along the roof of the stadium to give the birds-eye view.

The ball redirected to Elliot Anderson who then delivered the through ball to Bellingham to score.

Former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg said on Fox: “VAR can interfere if that contact of the ball on the camera cable is part of a reviewable incident, an attacking phase of play leading to a goal is part of the var reviewable incident. it should have been picked up the VAR.”

FIFA have since released a statement, denying that any contact was made between the ball and the wire.

"Before England's goal in minute 45+2 against Norway, the sensor in the Connected Ball showed no peak in the 'heartbeat of the ball' when in the air, and therefore no evidence that the ball touched the overhead wire and changed the movement of the ball," a FIFA statement said.

ENGLAND HAVE DONE IT!

For only the fourth time in history England are into the semi-finals of a World Cup!

They held on, they worked hard for it. Norway were inspired not just today but throughout the tournament.

The world has fallen in love with the rowing ROO, they're an iconic team that has truly put themselves on the map.

But today is England's day. Jude Bellingham, take a bow.

SHOCK SUB

Erling Haaland is coming off for Strand Larsen.

"It has to be an injury," says Alan Shearer on the BBC. "There is no way you take Haaland off if you are in desperate need of a goal."

Nyland the hero for Norway early on! Two big strikes from England, there is zero bus parking happening in Miami!

A huge roar form the crowd as Jude Bellingham is subbed off for England. Burn comes on.

PENALTY FOR ENGLAND - DENIED!!!

Spence went on an outstanding run and it's a clear cut penalty. He's down in the box.

It's been sent for a review.

NO PENALTY! Reprieve for Norway. Spence judged to have put his leg in front of the defender.

What a ride. England are now 15 minutes from a place in the World Cup semi-final.

HEY JUUUUUUUUUUUDE! ENGLAND SCORE

What a tournament he is having, he's getting himself into golden boot contention now! That's his sixth of the World Cup. He'd be 6th in the GB race.

Three minutes into the extra-time. A strike from Rogers is saved by Nyland but he spills and doesn't deal with it. A clinical tap in from Jude.

ENGLAND ARE UP! 154 seconds into the additional time. Why did we scrap golden goal?

EXTRA TIME

We are going to extra time in Miami. They are going to have to dig VERY deep. It's humid, it's mid-30s.

We are going the distance...I'll have to start some mindfulness now to prep for the penalties.

We all know the England-penalty history.

Near clanger!

Another near clanger but this time for Norway. England's Spence chased down Nyland who was lining up for a goalkick and he got a boot to the ball! Unfortunately for England it didn't land where he would have wanted it.

But it's the tiny one perceners that are going to decide this now.

Plenty of fresh legs on for England. All or nothing now. We are four minutes from the final whistle.

This is heart in mouth stuff. Being and England fan never gets any easier.

NORWAY SCORE! But it's disallowed!

Jordan Pickford is fuming, Elliot Anderson is pushed over by Haaland before the ball was played into the box.

Pickford made an initial save but England just could not clear it.

The goal is being checked by the VAR hub and it's the Haaland push that is the issue.

GOAL DISALLOWED!

Alan Shearer is bang on with this though regarding England's defence.

"It was just a lack of reaction from England players," he tells the BBC. "Everything that they didn't do, Norway did. They are moaning about the push from Haaland on Anderson but there is five or six of them standing around hoping for the foul and it doesn't come. Then Heggem sticks it into the net."

Second half

Eze and Saka are on for England to start the second half. Declan Rice coming off - that will be the sickness and injury he is managing. Noni Madueke also off.

Will we get a result inside 45?

GOAL DISALLOWED!

Harry Kane is offside! He just went too early but it was wonderful play from England. What a way to end the gfirst half. Inches offside and the goal is disallowed.

Build on this through the break lads!

ENGLAND SCORE!

Cometh the hour, cometh Bellingham! He's done it again! England are level. It's his fifth World Cup goal and it's so important.

A great ball in from Henderson and Bellingham's first touch is sublime. Controls the ball has two defenders on him and he finds the net.

Just what we needed after a really average spell.

HEY JUUUUUUDE!

Sort it out England

What are England doing? Can only be grateful that Norway's Sorloth is playing selfish because it was a 2 on 1 situation and Stones did exceptionally well to manage that because Haaland was on a run and totally unmarked.

This is all Norway. England rattled. Another uphill battle it will be.

Near clanger then NORWAY SCORE!

I think my heart just stopped. So nearly howler of the World Cup from John Stones and Haaland can't convert but just a few minutes later, Kane loses possession (which was a foul) and Andreas Schjelderup scores an absolute pearler of a goal, which I don't even think was intended as a strike.

It goes in off the post. England caught napping and Norway are firing up.

I'm English and I'm impressed by that goal. Wonderful.

Nothing separating them

As we reach the first half hydration break - warranted today given it's 35 degrees in Miami - there is little between these two side. England perhaps just an edge ahead in chances created but neither of the NO9s has had much of a sniff at goal.

Haaland being well managed by England for now and same can be said about Norway and Kane.

Both sides know they're likely in this for the long haul.

No sooner do I write this but England get a free-kick in what we call "Beckham areas" and while Harry Kane got a hell of a lot of pace on it, it's flown over the cross bar.

England and Norway players have observed a moment of silence in honour of Adams ahead of kick off in Miami.

World Cup star dies

South African star Jayden Adams has died just weeks after representing his country at the World Cup.

The 25-year-old Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder was found at his home in Cape Town and police have launched an investigation.

Adams was part of the Bafana Bafana team that reached the last 32 of the World Cup where they lost to Canada.

South African Football Players Union confirmed the tragic news in a statement: “The SAFPU is devastated by the untimely passing of Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder, Jayden Adams.

“Jayden had only recently represented South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, carrying the hopes of the nation with pride, courage, and distinction.

“His passing is an immeasurable loss to his family, teammates, clubs, the football fraternity and country at large.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the Adams family, Mamelodi Sundowns, Stellenbosch FC, Bafana Bafana and all those whose lives he touched.

“South African football has lost a gifted player, a proud servant of the game and a young life that still had so much to offer.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
