Sunday thoroughbred racing is in Hobart for an eight-race card featuring the $45,000 Kevin Sharkie Sires Produce for two-year-olds.
The rail is back in true after being at +9m for the meeting a fortnight ago. There is fine weather forecast which should see the surface in the 4-5 range.
Race 3 – 2. Don Turboas
Don Turboas had been a bookie’s dream until last start, where he finally delivered on what he promised for most of his career. He got a brilliant steer by Erica Byrne Burke, but I loved how strong he was through the line, and it was the sign of a horse that may string a few together. A very strong SP profile suggests the price might not be a spoil, but he’s one I’ll want to be with.
Race 7 – 6. Sh’bourne Midnight
The open handicap is a beauty, and for me it’s a case of either Sh’bourne Midnight or the field. He’s had his runs spaced, having not faced the starter since a very good second off a spell in a race that was dominated from the front. The 6yo has a very consistent record, but he won’t know himself with 54kg, having often carried big weights in benchmark or WFA contests. The gate will require a good ride from Bulent Muhcu, but he’ll be in the finish if that occurs.
Race 2 – 6. Honest Warrior
It was an inconspicuous Tassie debut for Honest Warrior, settling back in his maiden and finishing unplaced at $41. He went to the line without being fully tested, though, and the form from the race has proven to be strong. Up to 1400m only appears to be a positive based on his previous mainland form, and the Kelvin Hamilton stable is one I’m always keen to keep very safe.
