What was said: Freo's Johnson reveals Harley Derby exchange

Fremantle midfielder Matt Johnson has revealed what was said during his exchange with West Coast's Harley Reid and an umpire in last weekend's Western Derby.

Speaking on SEN WA Breakfast with Belly and Goss, Johnson said he couldn't resist adding his own perspective after Reid questioned the umpire over a couple of missed free kicks.

"He was obviously a bit disappointed he didn't get a couple of free kicks," Johnson said.

"I just went over and said, 'Well, I'm not holding him and he's whacking me off the ball, so just keep an eye out for that as well.'"

While the fiery moment drew plenty of attention, Johnson insisted there wasn't much talk between the pair throughout the game which the ladder-leading Dockers won by 70 points.

Johnson also said the premiership favourites still have room to improve despite sitting three games clear on top of the ladder.

"We're by no means satisfied with how we're going. We haven't played four quarters of dominant footy like we strive for," the 23-year-old added.

Johnson and the Dockers will look to build on their Derby win when they host the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium on Friday night.
