King: Yze and Tigers must avoid “significant trauma”

Richmond must avoid further trauma this weekend by beating West Coast at the MCG.

That is according to David King who says Adem Yze needs a win with his Tigers who have struggled their way through 2026.

The Tigers have lost eight in a row and King reckons they must avoid defeat to the Eagles on Sunday.

“There’s only one man in the gun this week,” King said on SEN’s Fireball.

“Richmond play the West Coast Eagles in Melbourne. This is a job they have to get done.”

It prompted a swift back and forth between King and Fireball co-host Kane Cornes.

Cornes: “Do they want to win? Is it in their long-term interests to win?”

King: “They’ve lost eight in a row.

“It is (in their interests), because there’s no standout No.1 pick.”

Cornes: “What about if that No.1 pick just looks nice to Port Adelaide for Zak Butters?”

King: “Do you think they’d sneeze at Pick 2?”

Cornes: “No, I don’t. And I’m kind of with you, but remembering that North Melbourne were in a similar position with the win they had against Gold Coast that cost them Harley Reid.”

King: “That was different, that was a complete cock-up.

“But Adem Yze needs a victory. If Andrew McQualter’s system takes hold of Richmond then I think there will be significant trauma.”

The Tigers currently sit 18th on the ladder with a 2-17 record, up against an Eagles outfit that occupies 16th with a 4-15 record.
