Young Socceroo on the verge of record-breaking Premier League move

Australia's rising phenom Lucas Herrington is set to break an Australian transfer record, with reports linking the MLS All Star to newly-promoted Premier League side Hull City.

The 18-year-old was a standout performer for the Socceroos at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, earning links to the likes of FC Barcelona after his stellar tournament at central defence.

However, Hull City are now leading the race for the defender, willing to pay upwards of £20 million ($38 million AUD) for his services - marking what would be the record for the most expensive Australian transfer in football history.

According to journalist Rudy Galetti, Hull City and the Colorado Rapids are in negotiation over a potential £21.5 million deal, with 15% of any future sale of Herrington owed to the Rapids as a part of the agreement.

The deal would trump Harry Souttar's current Australian transfer record, having joined Leicester City from Stoke City for a reported £14.5 million in 2023.

It would also mark Colorado's most expensive transfer in the club's history.

As it stands, no deal is agreed upon, with the two clubs reportedly ironing out the details over the coming days.

The Colorado Rapid was recently named in the MLS' All Star side, playing alongside Premier League legend Heung-Min Son despite only debuting in February of this year.
