NZ Racing tips: Jayne Ivil & Mark Claydon's Saturday best bets (08/08)

New Zealand form analysts Jayne Ivil & Mark Claydon have given their best bets for racing in NZ this Saturday.

On SENTrack & RSN's Giddy Up, Ivil gave her thoughts on Te Rapa and Riccarton, while Claydo's tips are still to come.

Te Rapa

Race 3 Maiden 1300m

10 – 11 – 2 – 4

Kalgarry Ally has been placed in her last two outings, with form out of her race at Counties two back and a narrow defeat last start at the track over 1200m. She won’t be fazed by the track conditions and deserves to pick up her first win. Sweet Torque looks the danger, finished just behind Kalgarry Ally last start but produced the fastest closing sectionals coming back to 1200m from a mile.

Race 6 Rating 75 1400m

6 – 8 – 5 – 3

Khalessi comes into Saturday’s race second up and is unbeaten in this state. Raced fresh at Ruakaka first up, got back and over -raced yet still produced the fastest last 6, 4 & 2 to run into 3rd. The first two home at Ruakaka have subsequently come out and run 1 – 2 again in their next outing. Miss Understood returned in terrific order this preparation with a placing and a last start win, does have to step up in grade here third up. Eluid starts her campaign in this, has trialled well and should get an economical trip from the barrier, holds a nomination for Group 1 racing later in the spring.

Riccarton

Race 6 Grand National Steeplechase 5600m

3 – 5 – 1 – 2

Lord Spencer has made an immediate mark stepping up to the bigger fences after successfully navigating the hurdles. His win in the Koral Steeplechase was his third victory in a row after picking up his Maiden and the Hawkes Bay Steeplechase. Travelled a touch keen in the Koral and sat handier than we have seen previously that should take the edge off the horse stepping up in distance at the weekend. Took care of most of his opposition in the lead-up and looks a strong chance here.
