Signings watch: Dolphins CEO gives update on Farnworth situation

Dolphins CEO Terry Reader remains confident that star centre Herbie Farnworth will remain at the club despite rumours connecting him with a move away.    

Since joining the club from the Broncos in 2024, the 26-year-old has been one of the club’s best players, having averaged a try every two games whilst racking up the run metres with an average of 167m per game.

As a result, the two-time Dally M Team of the Year representative, who comes out of contract in 2027, has been in hot demand by rival clubs, with the Sydney Roosters having reportedly offered him a contract in the vicinity of $1 million per season back in April, as per James Hooper.

It’s not the first time the youngest NRL club has thwarted off opposition clubs for his signature, having gotten him to sign a one-year extension following the 2025 season.

But despite the noise, Reader remains steadfast in keeping the English representative as the club gears up for a maiden finals appearance in just its fourth season.

“That seems to be everyone's favourite rumour, that one,” Reader told SEN’s Crunch Time NRL.

“I'm not sure you've ever heard it from Herbie's management or our club, and if I remember correctly, 12 months ago, the same rumour was there, and he re-signed with our club for another 12 months to the end of ‘27.

“So, it's like anything. We don't expect anything different.

“The club is in a good position with good players around, and they've got a team that can challenge.

“That's one thing Herbie wants to be a part of, and he's become an even better footballer since he's been at the Dolphins under Wolfie (Kristian Woolf) and I've got no doubting he'll continue to get better.”

The Dolphins will be keen to jump into the top four this week as they travel to Brookvale Oval to take on the Sea Eagles this Friday night.
