Tom Morris has named the 12 players that he would draft to build a team around.

Morris and Kane Cornes discussed the balance between drafting already proven talent and drafting players for the future, with some of the best in the AFL right now being left off the list for younger players.

The draft order prioritised the next 10 years in the league, with Morris weighting his draft to younger players who have shown immense potential.

This draft was inspired by former Australian cricketer Will Pucovski, who after the first Test match in Darwin asked people around him: “If the competition was blown up today and there was 19 new clubs coming in, what would the top 10 of the draft be?”

Morris said: “It's clearly weighted towards the younger you are, the more attractive you are to select in this draft."

Check out the rankings below and listen to Morris and Cornes go head-to-head on who deserved a spot.

12 - Harry Dean (Carlton)
11 - Kysaiah Pickett (Melbourne)
10 - Bailey Smith (Geelong)
9 - Will Aschroft (Brisbane)
8 - Nick Watson (Hawthorn)
7 - Harley Reid (West Coast)
6 - Murphy Reid (Fremantle)
5 - Nate Caddy (Essendon)
4 - Sam Darcy (Western Bulldogs)
3 - Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera (St Kilda)
2 - Logan Morris (Brisbane)
1 - Nick Daicos (Collingwood)

Cornes and Morris both agreed that Nick Daicos should be the unanimous number one given he is still only 23 years old and is widely considered the best player in the competition.

“I would have had Nick number one, just because of everything that he is and the way that he carries himself and he’s a winner and he’s a future captain,” Cornes said in response to Morris' rankings.

Cornes asked the question of Harley Reid being ranked at 7, believing that his untapped potential should have him higher up the draft.

“I would have had Harley higher, one or two. I would have had Harley over Murphy Reid,” Cornes added.

Morris voiced his infatuation with Murphy Reid's game and how he believes the Dockers talent is one of the biggest X-factor players in the league.

“Maybe I’m seduced by his X-factor skills, but I love Murphy Reid," said Morris.

Cornes also noted that Harry Sheezel was a notable exclusion from the draft and argued that the Roos star should slide into Reid's spot in the top 12.

“No Sheezel? I think they are pretty comparable,” Cornes said of the North gun.
