PNG Chiefs land their 007

The PNG Chiefs have their 007 with Joey Manu signing a two-year deal with the club.

Since leaving the Roosters in 2024, the 30-year-old has been playing ruggby union in Japan and France, but after a three season hiatus, he will return to league when the Chiefs join the NRL in 2028.

Manu joins Jarome Luai, Alex Johnston, Connor Watson, Matty Lees, Zac Lomax and Brian To’o as the first seven players signed with the Chiefs.

Speaking about his signing, PNG Chiefs CEO Lorna McPherson said the star outside back was another significant acquisition for the club.

“Joey is another key signing for us and a further demonstration of the ambition we have for this club in making an impact for the people of Papua New Guinea,” McPherson said in a statement on Monday.

“His connection to the Pacific, his character, experience and standing in the game will have a profound impact on our club.

“He understands the responsibility that comes with representing something bigger than himself, and we believe he can have a genuine impact on our young players and the next generation of Papua New Guineans – who we are proud to represent as a club."
