Diamonds star locks in with Sydney Sirens

The Sydney Sirens are thrilled to announce Australian Diamonds representative, Sophie Dwyer, has re-signed with the club, committing to the next chapter of elite netball in New South Wales.

One of the most exciting attacking talents in Australian netball, Dwyer will continue her long-standing association with the organisation as it transitions from GIANTS Netball to the Sydney Sirens ahead of the 2027 Super Netball season.

Fresh from claiming a silver medal on the international stage at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, Dwyer's commitment provides a major boost for the Sirens as they continue to assemble a roster capable of competing with the competition's best.

A product of the Netball NSW pathway, Dwyer has become one of the defining figures of the GIANTS era. Since making her Super Netball debut, she has developed into one of the league's most dynamic and versatile attackers, earning Diamond status and establishing herself as a fan favourite through her flair and athleticism.

As the Sirens prepare to embark on a new era for the club, Dwyer's decision to remain with the club represents an important connection between its proud history and ambitious future.

"This club has been my home for a long time and I'm incredibly proud of everything we've built together over the years," Dwyer said.

"When I first came into the program, I couldn't have imagined the impact it would have on my career and my life. Some of my closest friendships, biggest lessons and most special memories have come through this club.

"The transition to the Sydney Sirens is really exciting because it gives us the opportunity to build on everything that's been created over the past decade while embracing a new future.

"We're not starting from scratch - we're carrying forward the legacy, the people and the values that have made this club so special, while creating a new identity that reflects where we're heading.

"There's a genuine excitement around what we're building. The ambition is clear, the vision is exciting and I can't wait to be part of helping shape the next chapter.

"I've loved representing this club as a GIANT and I'm incredibly proud to now continue that journey as a Sydney Siren."

Sydney Sirens Head Coach, Nerida Stewart, said retaining Dwyer was a significant coup for the club.

"Soph is one of the premier talents in Australian netball, and we're absolutely thrilled she has committed to the Sydney Sirens," Stewart said.

"She's an elite athlete, a proven performer at Super Netball and international level, and someone who has already demonstrated her ability to influence games in big moments.

"What makes this signing particularly special is her connection to the club. Soph has grown through our pathways, developed into a Diamonds player within this environment and helped create many of the moments our members and supporters cherish.

"As we transition into the Sydney Sirens era, having players like Soph continue the journey is incredibly important. She represents the best of what has been built here and will play a major role in helping define what comes next."
